Breakfast Studio in Örnsköldsvik with the Theme – More Forest than Ever

Hundreds of entrepreneurs gathered in Örnsköldsvik to listen to how the forest can provide future sustainable solutions. The host was Cleantech Kvarken in cooperation with Örnsköldsvik Industrial Group and North Sweden Cleantech.

With new technology and applications, the forest is more interesting than ever. How should we take advantage of this resource and use it in the best way? The program of the morning, 28th of mars, was hosted by several of the companies that are linked to the project. Marco Lucisano from RISE research institute focused on global trends and attitudes towards using the forest as a basis for more sustainable material choices. Are we aware why we choose or opt out of some raw materials? Based on a global study, Marco demonstrated the patterns of how we as consumers relate our view of packaging materials. The study shows that there are geographical differences between participating countries. Lena Nordgren, Biofuels Expert on SEKAB, said that forests play a key role in achieving climate goals. Imagine you can fly fossil-free with biofuel made from forest residues. The technology for producing biojet and other biofuels from the forest already exists at SEKAB. Together with our moderator, Clas Engström, Susanne Ek, Nätraälven skog and Åke Forsgren, President Metsä Forest Sweden, discussed the scenario about the increased demand for forest raw materials. How should we use the forest's potential in the best possible way? What does sustainable forestry mean? How much forest can we use while maintaining our positive growth? Were issuses discussed at the breakfast studio.
